Gardening may be fun for some - and less for others. Before we had a garden, I was sure that gardening had to be the greatest fun. I would dream of having my own house and little garden. In my mind, I would separate the garden into sections, which would each be lovingly created. I knew that I would enjoy building a rockery corner with different herbs. I would collect rocks from different places and arrange them in one corner of the garden. Then I would choose different herbs like basil, mint, thyme and rosemary to be planted among the rocks. In my mental architecture of the garden I decided that I would plant a couple of rose bushes. Almost forgot - but fruit trees are a must. For my dream garden, I chose a lemon tree and an almond bush. I would have a honeysuckle bush that would climb along the fence and provide a green wall to the outside and a lovely scent. For years my imaginary garden was all planned out, but unfortunately non-existent.
Then suddenly things changed. We bought a house with a little garden. Now I would at long last have the opportunity to create and landscape the garden of my desire. But that meant actually getting down to some physical work. Even though my garden has been planned in my head for years, suddenly gardening does not seem like so much fun any more! In the meantime, we just have a whole lot of sand and one solitary rose bush.
Fun, fun, fun - what can we do today for entertainment? I asked myself. This question seems to arise on a daily basis in my home. I feel rather like a little boy again, constantly on the search for sources of amusement, so that I will not be bored. In a way, I suppose that it sounds rather sad, but I do prefer to keep myself busy. I just can't stand lazing around at home with nothing to do. The minute that I put up my feet to start to watch the TV and then sit glued in front of it to the latest rubbish, inevitably I will fall asleep. If I fall asleep too early in the evening - then I find it difficult to sleep at night. I need something of interest during the evening after work, to keep me entertained.
So, now I return to my original challenge, which is the search for the evening's entertainment. Last night I went out to a bar with some friends. Two days ago we went to see a film and on the day before that we went out for dinner. I can't even remember what we did on the previous day! Perhaps tonight, a bowling club could be the venue. I do enjoy bowling. I am certainly no great expert at this pursuit but I do find it enjoyable. I like to be involved in some sort of activity together with a group of friends - it keeps me out of mischief anyway!
Some people eat because they have to intake food in order to stay alive. They are aware that their bodies need to absorb food and drink and so they eat, but they do not view eating as a fun thing to do. There are others that enjoy eating and sometimes even consider it as a form of entertainment.
Just think of the restaurant or cafe business and what a large part it constitutes within the entertainment field. A large number of people choose to dine out as a kind of amusement. If one stops for a moment to think about all the different types of food that are available, this does provide some sort of indication of the popularity of dining out. One can make a selection from a wide choice including Chinese food, Indian, Italian, Middle Eastern, steak houses, pasta, fast food, burgers, fish and chips, pizza. In addition, light refreshments may be enjoyed at coffee and cake shops, and ice cream and pancake parlours. I am sure you could think of more possible alternatives for dining pleasure, if you gave it just a few minutes of your time.
Let's face it, how many dates have you been on, where you arranged to go out to, or to meet at a restaurant or cafe? No party or celebration would be complete without the suitable food arrangements.
It appears to be that inside the food industry is the best place to be. This is one of the main places where people have fun!
The greatest fun I had in a long time was when I went walking by the sea the other day. I know that Summer is not yet here, but I could not resist the temptation. The weather was just perfect - not too hot and not too cold. I did not take swimwear with me - I was not that brave! It was quite windy - but there is nothing quite like a sea breeze. I always find that it gives me a healthy feeling. You are not only enjoying nature and the great outdoors, but it is almost as though one becomes a part of the nature. I walk along the beach and I can feel the power and motion of the sea, as I become mesmerised by the regular movement of the waves. With the wind blowing through my hair, I feel the sun and wind on my face. Also thanks to the wind, I can taste the salt from the sea on my lips.
Allowing myself to bask into a feeling of Summer in the first signs of Spring, I remove my shoes in order to experience the feel of the warm sand between my toes. Eager for a feel of the sea, I step up to the water's edge and allow the waves to lap over my feet.
It was almost with a feeling of sadness that I left the sea shore that day. The only encouraging element was that we still have the whole Summer in front of us to enjoy the fun of the sea and beach.
"Fun, fun, fun - what can we do today for entertainment?" I asked myself. I felt rather like a little boy again, constantly on the search for sources of amusement, so that I would not be bored. In a way, I suppose it sounds rather sad, but I do prefer to keep myself busy. I just can't stand lazing around at home with nothing to do. If I just switch on the television and sit glued in front of the box watching the latest rubbish, I will inevitably fall asleep. After all, what is life, without having some fun. We all work so hard during the day - are we not entitled to enjoy ourselves too, at some stage of the day? Sometimes, my day's work does stretch on late into the evening and then my play hours are unfortunately reduced accordingly.
So, now I return to my original challenge - the search for the evening's entertainment. Last night I went out to a bar with some friends. Perhaps tonight, a bowling club could be the venue. I do enjoy bowling. We certainly have not played for a while. I shall begin a round of phone calls around the gang and a decision will soon be made. At least I have an idea now. This is how it starts - one of us comes up with an idea and spreads it along the phone lines to the rest of the friends in our group. Once the line of action is arranged and time and location scheduled, then the fun can start.
